As followers of Jesus, we have two choices every moment of every day. We can either choose to let our flesh (self) be in control or surrender to the Holy Spirit and let Him be in control. Ephesians 3:14-19 says, “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”
Paul prayed that we, as believers, would be strengthened with power through the Holy Spirit. He never said to buckle down and try harder. Trying harder is always the flesh (or self) being in control. Paul talks about Christ dwelling in our hearts through faith. That means we must trust Him and surrender to His control of our lives.
God can do amazing things when we surrender. Ephesians 3:20 is one of my favorite verses, “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,” God can do far more abundantly beyond anything we can even think or imagine! When we are surrendered to His plan on a moment by moment basis, we can expect Him to do great things!
Are you surrendered to God’s plan for you? Are you expecting Him to do great things in and through you? Why or why not? Share your thoughts in the comments.
